WHO WE ARE

SO.GE.MI - Company for the Establishment and Operation of the Wholesale Food Markets of Milan - is the joint-stock company which, on behalf of the Municipality of Milan, manages all the wholesale agri-food markets of the City, guaranteeing their functioning through the provision of qualified services to support the commercial activities carried out by the operators.

The Wholesale Markets of Milan

The Milanese wholesale markets (Fruit and Vegetable, Fish, Floriculture and Meat) managed by SO.GE.MISpA, constitute one of the major European realities for the wholesale trade of fresh agri-food products and have an essential function: in the correct formation of wholesale prices; in the enhancement of local production; in improving the quality of products; in the protection of food safety for the benefit of citizens; in the activities of importing products from all over the world and in the development of the export of quality Italian products in the EU and Extra EU.

The Fruit and Vegetable Market wholesale in Milan is the largest in Italy in terms of goods handling and is characterized by the high quality standard and the breadth of the range of products available all year round, such as to satisfy any type of national and foreign clientele.

The Meat Market wholesale in Milan is the leading market in Italy for the marketing of meat from chickens, rabbits, game, processed and pre-cooked products and eggs. In the market there is a "Bag Room" where the commercial representatives of the most important Italian companies deal with their goods.

The Fish market wholesale in Milan is among the most modern in Europe and is the largest market for fish products in Italy in terms of quantities processed. The market is characterized by the high quality and freshness of the products marketed.

The Floricolo Market wholesale in Milan makes use of innovative plant and technological solutions and plays a central role in the development of national floriculture and in the redistribution in Italy of products of foreign origin.

All the Markets managed by SO.GE.MI SpA (Fruit and Vegetable, Fish, Floriculum and Meat) are located in equipped areas adjacent to each other, so as to constitute a single large integrated wholesale distribution center. The SO.GE.MI Markets have an essential function:

  • in the correct formation of wholesale prices;
  • in the enhancement of local production;
  • in the fight against expensive life thanks to the opening to the public of the same;
  • in improving the quality of products;
  • in the protection of food safety for the benefit of citizens;
  • in the internationalization and import of products from all over the world;
  • in the development of the export of quality Italian products in the EU and Extra EU.

The Company is committed to development of targeted innovative programs overcoming the traditional rationale role of Wholesale Markets and aimed at encouraging the creation of a multifunctional center of integrated services in the agro-food sector, through the creation of innovative structures capable of offering responses to new users and organized distribution and creation of technologically equipped spaces for the conservation, processing and transformation of products.

In particular, it intends to adapt the organization and operational structures of the Wholesale Markets to the changed commercial needs of the sector and to an efficient distribution, in order to guarantee the quality and safety of the product, expanding the range of products marketed and introducing activities complementary products aimed at enhancing and marketing typical local and regional quality products.
